NIT Mizoram announces various initiatives aligned with the National Education Policy 2020
National Institute of Technology Mizoram (NIT Mizoram) has announced the successful implementation of several initiatives aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). These initiatives aim to revolutionize the education landscape and foster all-encompassing learning experiences for its students. NIT Mizoram continues to stride towards excellence in education, research, and innovation, guided by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision and commitment.
Prof. S. Sundar, Director, NIT Mizoram stated that these initiatives are in line with learner-centric education and will provide greater flexibility and credibility to the students. He also said that NIT Mizoram is dedicated to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship among its students and encouraging industry collaborations and real-world experience.
Some of the key initiatives undertaken by NIT Mizoram are:
- ABC Certification of Degrees: NIT Mizoram has successfully implemented the ABC certification system for all the certificates of the 2022 pass-out batch. This initiative ensures the authenticity and credibility of its degrees.
- Credit Banking System: NIT Mizoram has incorporated the Credit Banking System, allowing its undergraduate final year students to transfer credits earned in IIT Madras. This integration is made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Madras.
- Multidisciplinary Courses: NIT Mizoram has taken a major step towards promoting interdisciplinary education by introducing Multidisciplinary Courses under the Centre of Interdisciplinary Research.
- Multiple Exit Options: NIT Mizoram has introduced the Multiple Exit System at various academic levels, including Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD programs. The institute now offers Dual-degree BTech-MTech programs in Data Science, Computational Nanotechnology and Semiconductors, and Smart Grid Technology. It also offers Direct BTech-PhD programs with an 8-year duration.
- Embracing Digital Learning: NIT Mizoram has embraced the digital era by incorporating MOOCs and SWAYAM online courses into the curriculum for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD degrees.
- Industry-Institute Collaboration: NIT Mizoram believes in the power of real-world experience and to promote this, it has initiated Research Internships for Postgraduate and PhD students in collaboration with various industries. Additionally, undergraduate students are provided with 4️-6️ weeks of industrial work exposure. Moreover, its students actively engage in research collaborations and internationalization with foreign institutes.
- Minor Programs: NIT Mizoram ensures that its B.Tech students stay updated with the latest technologies by introducing Minor Programs covering various state-of-the-art technologies.
- Innovation Support: NIT Mizoram is committed to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship among its students. It has established an Innovation and Incubation Centre (IIC) to support their ideas and projects.
NIT Mizoram’s achievements in line with NEP 2020
NIT Mizoram’s dedication to excellence, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is evident through its students’ remarkable achievements in various domains.
Some of the notable achievements are:
- NIT Mizoram’s team “Tech Titans” won the first prize in the Smart India Hackathon 2023 under the Ministry of Education category for developing a smart attendance system using facial recognition technology.
- NIT Mizoram’s team “Innovators” secured the second position in the AICTE-CII India Innovation Challenge 2023 for designing a low-cost solar-powered water purifier for rural areas.
- NIT Mizoram’s team “Code Warriors” represented India in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2023 Asia Pacific Regional Finals held in Singapore.
- NIT Mizoram’s team “Green Minds” participated in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2023 and developed a mobile app for monitoring air quality using satellite data.
- NIT Mizoram’s team “Social Impact” won the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2023 India Finals for creating a web platform for connecting volunteers and NGOs for social causes.
NIT Mizoram’s contribution to society and nation-building
NIT Mizoram is not only focused on academic excellence but also on social responsibility and nation-building. The institute has undertaken various initiatives to serve the society and contribute to national development.
Some of the notable initiatives are:
- NIT Mizoram has adopted five villages under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) scheme and has implemented various projects for improving their quality of life, such as providing solar lamps, installing biogas plants, conducting health camps, and imparting digital literacy.
- NIT Mizoram has established a Community Radio Station (CRS) named “NIT Mizoram Radio” to disseminate information and awareness on various topics such as education, health, environment, culture, and government schemes to the local community.
- NIT Mizoram has organized several outreach programs and workshops for school students, teachers, and parents to promote science and technology education and career guidance.
- NIT Mizoram has participated in the Fit India Movement and the Swachh Bharat Mission and has conducted various activities such as yoga sessions, marathons, cleanliness drives, and plantation drives to promote fitness and hygiene among its students and staff.
