India’s Golden Triangle is a popular tourist route that covers three of the most culturally and historically rich cities in the country: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The route forms a triangular shape on the map, hence the name. If you are planning your first trip to India, you cannot miss this opportunity to experience the diversity and beauty of this incredible land. Here is a guide to help you plan your Golden Triangle itinerary.

Delhi: The capital city of contrasts

Delhi is the best place to start your Golden Triangle tour, as it has international flights from almost all the major cities across the world. You can explore the city for around two days before moving forward. Delhi is a blend of centuries-old architecture and modern amenities, offering a glimpse into the past and present of India. You can visit the city’s many monuments, such as the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate and Lotus Temple. You can also enjoy the city’s vibrant street markets, eateries, clubs and malls.

Agra: The city of love and heritage

Agra is around three hours away from Delhi by road, and it is home to more than just the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world, and a symbol of love and beauty. You should keep an entire day reserved to visit this magnificent monument, as it will leave you spellbound by its architecture and history. You can also explore other attractions in Agra, such as Fatehpur Sikri and the Agra Fort. These are examples of the Mughal empire’s grandeur and legacy. Don’t forget to shop for some souvenirs and taste some delicious street food in Agra’s markets.

Jaipur: The pink city of royalty and culture

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan, a state known for its rich culture and heritage. Jaipur is also called the pink city, because of its distinctive colour of buildings. Jaipur will take you back to the days of royal clans in India, with its majestic forts and palaces. You can visit the Amber Palace, City Palace, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jal Mahal and Hawa Mahal. These are examples of the Rajput rulers’ splendour and craftsmanship. You can also enjoy some authentic Rajasthani cuisine, especially desserts and traditional meals. Jaipur’s markets are also a great place to buy some handicrafts, jewellery and textiles.

Back to Delhi: The end of your Golden Triangle tour

You can head back to Delhi by air or road for your flight back from India. You can also spend another day in Delhi to explore more of its attractions. You can visit Old Delhi, which is famous for its street food and wholesale markets. You can also visit South Delhi, which is where art exhibitions, cafes, galleries and museums are located. Delhi is a city that offers something for everyone, and it will leave you with unforgettable memories.
